Our Mission Statement

The Trumansburg PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is a dedicated group of elementary and middle school parent and teacher volunteers who are committed to building a stronger community, enhancing student education and supporting teachers through fundraising.

We strive to bring people together through various community events and provide resources to enhance the student’s educational experience.

Additionally, we support teachers and staff with teacher appreciation initiatives, support the school as volunteers when needed and help fund items that may not be included in the budget to further enrich the student experience.

The PTO’s goal is to build a stronger school community by sponsoring fun events for Trumansburg students, families, and staff. We also enhance student education by supporting teachers and staff through fundraising.

Whatever works for you and your family! You can attend monthly meetings, serve as an officer, volunteer your time at events, donate funds, and more. However you choose to engage, our school community will be grateful!

Nope! Although donations and volunteer time are always appreciated, there is no financial requirement.

Please start by getting on our email list (send an email to tburgpto@gmail.com) and if you are on Facebook, follow our page (https://www.facebook.com/tburgpto/)! Anyone can join at any time throughout the school year – we encourage parents/caregivers of students, as well as staff members of TCSD to get involved with PTO! We meet once a month, September-May, at the Elementary School from 6:00-7:30 pm. Meeting dates will be announced via email, on the website, and on Facebook.

The first meeting of the 2025-26 school year will be Tuesday, September 23. We plan to meet monthly on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 6:00-7:00 pm in the Elementary School STEAM room. Please note that the November meeting will be held on the 3rd Tuesday due to school breaks. Free childcare is provided across the hallway in the library. Any changes to the meeting schedule will be announced by email, on Facebook, and on the website.

We reimburse teachers for many of the “extras” that they personally pay for to do special things in their classrooms. Examples include tie-dyed shirts for the entire first grade, balloons at Kindergarten graduation, 8th grade kayak rentals at the end of the year, snacks for the middle school day of service, and much more. We also organize and fund Staff Appreciation meals, retirement gifts, and other treats throughout the school year to show our gratitude for teachers, bus drivers, and all members of our school staff!

We’ve done all kinds of things! Lately we’ve been holding a Fall Family Dance in the Elementary School, Roller Skating parties and ice skating trips to Cass Park for both Elementary and Middle Schoolers, an end of year Ice Cream Social, to name a few! We also help organize the annual Staff Slam basketball tournament, and the May Day 5k and Fun Run. We are considering a circus, mini golf, and movie nights this coming year. Join the PTO and get involved with planning the fun!

Please sign up to be on our email list (send an email to tburgpto@gmail.com) and if you are on Facebook, follow our page (https://www.facebook.com/tburgpto/)!

Definitely! We can always use a monetary donation of any size to help support our work

Additionally, each fall we host a Halloween Costume Exchange and a Winter Gear Exchange in partnership with the Ulysses Philomathic Library. Please consider setting aside your gently used Halloween costumes, winter coats, snow pants, and snow boots. Email us at tburgpto@gmail.com for details, or watch for emails/social media posts announcing the drive dates!

Come to meetings, start volunteering at events, and let the current officers know that you are interested! We determine the slate of officers for the upcoming school year in May.

PTO funds are issued by reimbursement. Each grade level or program (i.e. art, student services, PE, health office) in each building is designated $200 per school year. Talk with your team members about how you’d like to spend those funds, and if the amount is $200 or less, just email your receipt to tburgpto@gmail.com and the Treasurer will write you a reimbursement check. Have a larger request, or already exceeded the $200 allotted for your grade/program? Submit your request here (https://tburgpto.com/requests/) and PTO Officers will review it. In some cases for larger purchases, the PTO will purchase the item(s) on your behalf. Email us at tburgpto@gmail.com if you are unsure!
