PTO Meeting MInutes
November 13th, 2013
In attendance: Sue, Christina, Meggan, Ann, Teresa, Amy
Discussion opened with announcement that Amy Dawson is the new secretary. Many thanks to Tracy Kirkman for her years of service. Thank you to Amy for assuming the role for 2013- 2014. In this role, Amy will take the minutes at the meetings, update the website and be part of the general PTO officer committee.
Ann DiPetta let us know that she will step down as President at the end of this school year. We are searching for a new President for the 2014-2015 school year. Ann’s son, Liam will be in grade 8 and she’d like to help a new President transition into the role. This job is not nearly as difficult as it sounds. Her role involves putting in building use forms for the meetings that we agree to hold, communication with parents, and communication with officers and PTO members. Please contact Ann or any member of PTO if you would like to consider this opportunity, or if you know someone who might be interested.
We had a great discussion about events to build community for parents. Some ideas generated include;
- Parent/Kid events
- Parent activity held during a school dance (off site or in a different part of the building)
- PTO hike
- PTO Book Club
- PTO Ice Skating
Game Night planning is underway! Teresa will be coordinating this event again this year. It is a very popular event for the students and their parents. We selected January 31st for the date pending the school calendar. January 24th is the fall back date. Teresa will coordinate volunteers. Amy suggested co-chairs for each portion to help get newer PTO parents comfortable with the event. We’ll be sending out more information about Game Night very soon.
Movie Night and Zombie Night was very popular and profitable again this year. After expenses, the event made $582.29. Of those funds, $270 was from the zombie walk, $123 was from the movie, and $189 was from concessions. The feedback from the event included a favorable response to offering a PG and a PG-13 section of the trail, and parents expressed gratitude for a switch in trail direction (to end near the school instead of farther away). Despite the cold, rainy night, we had a good turn out and everyone had a really great time!
Treasurer’s report: Meggan VanNess is going to be talking with Mary Proctor (former Treasurer) about a minor discrepancy with the checking balance. We actually have $100 more than what is in the books. Currently we have $8485.68 in checking. We have $3828.97 earmarked for the bathroom leaving us with an actual balance of $4656.71. We are spending money to support the following things so far this year;
- TCS foundation books
- Field trips
- apples
- Canadian party
- the bathroom for the new track
The PTO mailbox is being checked by Christina Luglan.
We are not holding a January PTO meeting. Game Night will serve as that month’s meeting. We will offer parent activities at this event. This is a really great annual event for parents and kids.
Our next meeting is scheduled for mid-March.
